Kayella in an ACP with experience working land and flight in both rural and urban areas for over 15 years. Early in her career, she began teaching pre-hospital care to paramedic students and frontline paramedics, eventually being recruited to design and facilitate several healthcare training programs for post-secondary institutions and paramedic services. She earned her degree in psychology from Queen’s University and has over 10 years of experience in progressive leadership positions including specialties in mentorship, investigations, recruitment, team engagement and program management. She completed specialized post-graduate training in Community Paramedicine and developed an award-winning Community Paramedicine program in Northern Ontario. Kayella has a passion for creating engaging recruitment strategies, education and mentoring leaders in achieving their potential through personal growth and professional development opportunities. She is the founder of goMedic, a learning design organization focusing on specialized learning and recruitment solutions for healthcare organizations. Sample Session Topics

Integrating micro-learning and assessment to recruit qualified, motivated teams

In this session, we will discuss the use of micro-learning recruitment tools to help organizations optimize learning delivery in recruitment and orientation programs. The session will introduce the concepts of motivation and neuroplasticity and how they related to learning and reinforcing professional competencies. We will discuss specialized recruitment tools currently available for internal and external competitions and outline the factors involved in designing recruitment tools. Participants will learn how to design a customized recruitment tool for their organization. This session is designed for prehospital or community paramedic leadership who are interested in building engaged and qualified teams.

Using micro-learning to generate organization-wide engagement in community paramedicine

In this session, we will discuss strategies for educating non-CP staff on the fundamentals of community paramedicine, how to generate buy-in from non-CP staff, and factors associated with motivation and learning. Participants will learn about team dynamics, emotional intelligence, leadership and the principles of micro-learning. This session is designed for community paramedics and leadership who are building strategies to engage CP and non-CP staff, who are interested in creating multi-level community paramedic skillsets and/or are aiming to educate leaders and paramedics on the impact of community paramedicine.

Recruiting and retaining skilled community paramedic teams

In this session, we will discuss comprehensive recruitment strategies designed to build skilled, competent and engaged community paramedic teams. We will outline factors related to recruitment including competency, emotional intelligence, union negotiations, assessment design and logistics. The session will also include a discussion on team retention strategies including psychosocial factors, team dynamics, communication and an interactive Q&A. Participants will come away with strategies for comprehensive recruitment design and team retention. This session is designed for community paramedics leadership who are interested in building engaged and qualified CP teams and leaders who are interested in team dynamics and engaged leadership.

Developing emotional intelligence in prehospital leadership

In this session, we will outline the components of emotional intelligence, discuss environmental and personal development factors associated with emotional intelligence and provide strategies for developing emotional intelligence skills. We will apply the principles of emotional intelligence specifically to paramedics and prehospital leaders.

*Note: this session can also include the use of emotional intelligence evaluations in prehospital and leadership recruitment.

Connecting Neuroplasticity, Health Teaching and Health Literacy

In this session, we will discuss the principles of neuroplasticity and how they connect with improving health literacy in patients. This session will help frontline healthcare professionals hone their health teaching skills, helping their patients form healthy habits, improve health literacy and set goals for their health.
